Capt. Jim Freda has been fishing the Jersey Shore for over 30 years. He is co-owner of Shore Catch Guide Service located in Manasquan, NJ that specializes in saltwater fly fishing and light tackle charters from both the beach and boat. He is a part of the National Factory Pro Team for St. Croix Rods and pro staff for Sufix, Aquaskinz, Avet Reels, Spro, Gamakatsu, Hogy, Korkers, Costa Del Mar, and Columbia Sportswear.
Jim is a highly respected charter captain, author, outdoor writer, seminar speaker, and photographer. His first book Fishing the New Jersey Coast, Burford Publishing Company, has been a best seller and has received the "New Jersey Center for the Book Award" as one of the most notable NJ books. He co-authored a second book Saltwater Fishing a Tactical Approach, A Guide for Northeast Beach and Boat Fishermen, with his Shore Catch partners Capt Gene Quigley and Shell E. Caris.
Jim has weekly fishing columns that appear in the Bergen Record-NJ's second largest newspaper and the Coast Star and Ocean Star newspapers of Monmouth and Ocean Counties. Nationally, Jim is a contributing editor for Fly Fishing in Saltwaters Magazine and also writes for Fly Fisherman Magazine, Saltwater Sportsman, Eastern Fly Fishing, Big Game Journal, and StriperSurf.com. Regionally he writes for On the Water Magazine where he has is own monthly column, The Fisherman Magazine and the NJ Federation of Sportsman Clubs newspaper.
As a seminar speaker Jim is featured as one of the celebrities on the Saltwater Sportsman National Seminar Series, as one of the “Stars of the Show” at the Fly Fishing Show in Somerset, NJ, the Northeast’s largest fly fishing show and is on the National Pro Seminar slate at the Toyota Saltwater Expo also in Somerset. He is also regularly featured each year at many of the local fishing clubs in the surrounding area including the State’s two largest clubs the Hudson River Fishermen’s Association and the Saltwater Anglers of Bergen County. Capt Jim has also been a guest speaker at all the Trout Unlimited Clubs in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Jim has also been a special guest speaker at the Bloomberg Network in New York City.
Capt. Jim is on the water in his 28 Parker Sport Cabin with charters from April through December targeting striped bass, bluefish, weakfish, false albacore, mahi, and tuna. He lives in Manasquan, NJ with his lovely wife Mary and their three children Christie, Carlie, and Tommy who are his favorite crew to be out on the water with.
Capt. Gene Quigley is considered one of the top fly and light tackle guides in the Northeast. A native of the New Jersey shore, Gene has been fishing the inshore and offshore waters for over 30 years. Gene specializes in inshore trophy Striper fishing and offshore fly fishing. He has put hundreds of anglers on their first trophy Striped Bass, Tuna, Dolphin, and Marlin on fly and light tackle and is one of a handful of anglers who have consistently landed tuna over 100 lbs on fly tackle. In addition to guiding, Gene is also a noted outdoor writer, photographer, and seminar speaker. He is on the editorial staff for Fly Fishing in Saltwaters, and contributes regularly to Saltwater Sportsman, Fly Fisherman, The Fisherman, Sport Fishing, On The Water Magazine, Boaters Digest, and is a featured speaker on the Sport Fishing's “Learn From the Experts” Seminar series.
Gene is a co-author of Saltwater Fishing, A Tactical Approach. Gene also contributes a weekly fishing column in the “Hook, Line and Sinker” section of the Asbury Park Press. Gene sits on the national prostaff’s for St Croix Rod Company, Raymarine, AVET Reels, Cape Horn and Jones Brothers boats, Yamaha, Navionics, Aquaskinz, Tibor Reels, Rio Fly Lines, Costa Del Mar Sunglasses, Gamakatsu, Spro, Sufix, Pelagic, Hogy, Bass Kandy, and Korkers.
Currently, Gene is the Chairman of the New Jersey Professional Fly & Light Tackle Guides Association and sits on the association’s national board of directors. He has been seen on the Outdoor Life Networks (OLN) “Family Fishing Outdoors Show” and PBS’s “Vacations On The Fly” television shows.

Shell E. is an accomplished spin, conventional, and fly tackle angler. He is a co-author of Saltwater Fishing, A Tactical Approach and a frequent contributor to the Fisherman magazine having written numerous articles on surf fishing strategies.
