Capt. Mike HOGAN

Captain Mike Hogan, owner of Hogy Lures, started pouring his own “rubber worms” as a young boy from a home kit his mom gave him. He fished every chance he got and spent summers working on deep sea fishing boats out of Cape Cod. He earned his captain's license when he was 18 and began running his own charters thereafter.

His inshore Orvis-sponsored charters were light tackle and fly-fishing, he also ran offshore charters for stripers, tuna, and marlin. In 2006, while guiding for striped bass, Captain Mike “Hogy” got back into lure making. He wanted a large-style soft bait that mimicked eels and other large baits and one that could easily be rigged and re-rigged on the water.

HOGY Lures Originally, his hand-poured soft plastic baits were for his own use and that of his close friends but Hogy Soft-baits quickly became the next "hot" thing. Today the motto at Hogy Lures is “Fish Big” as they make large soft baits ranging from 6” all the way up to a whopping 18”! The idea behind such large baits is that large predators will expend the energy for such a large reward. In just three years, the popularity of Hogy Lures has run up and down the east coast, boasting trophy sized catches of tuna, marlin, grouper, snapper, tarpon, snook, redfish, and many others.
